Depois de terem sido protagonistas do filme Once, que os levou a apaixonarem-se e a terem considerado que tinham encontrado no outro a pessoa certa, e que a paixão pela música era o suficiente para os manter unidos, eis que surge o documentário sobre a banda que era formada pelos dois.
O documentário mostra que por mais que desejassem, por mais que quisessem e apesar de tudo o que os ligava, não foram felizes para sempre.

Porque há sempre a palavra fim, tudo tem o seu fim. Não há nada eterno e nada é para sempre, nem mesmo a vida em comum de duas almas que tudo indica serem gémeas.
The Swell Season é um excelente documentário sobre o amor que duas pessoas nutrem uma pela outra, é sobre o amor à música, o amadurecimento desse amor, o amadurecimento dessa relação e acima de tudo sobre as consequências do crescimento da relação.
Houve partes do filme que me fizeram lembrar um pouco o filme Paper Heart (2009), porque o amor a algo em comum nunca é suficiente.
"This is the kind of a song hmmm the fact sometimes people grow apart from each other because they grow in a different phase or in a different way and hmmm because the timing wasn't right or you know the circumstances weren't right and you come to an understanding that there is a love you share that is bigger than all those things and it's not gonna necessary work out in this life time... but maybe in the next one, because the connection is strong enough and the bounds, so the next time you will find that person again wherever that person is in the world, so it's about that."
